Dr. Mekeshia Bates is a doctorally-prepared adult psychiatric nurse practitioner licensed in Maryland and Washington, DC. She is passionate about providing psychiatric care including counseling and medication management across the adult lifespan. Dr. Bates has experience with adult psychiatry, geriatrics, trauma, and addictions. She has provided psychiatric services, consultation, and medication management to clients in outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient settings both as a civilian and through the military. She is a strong advocate of ensuring that her clients receive culturally competent care based on their individual needs.

Dr. Bates is a cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC). She completed her graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH earning a Masters of Science in Nursing (focus on Adult Psychiatric/ Mental Health), a Masters in Public Health (focus on Health Policy and Administration), and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She is also the first nurse to complete the Cleveland (OH) Veterans Affairs National Quality Scholars Fellowship. Dr. Bates is a published author and has conducted numerous presentations on her research on genetic testing, African American males, quality improvement, and mental health.
